In Loving Memory

This blog entry is dedicated to a very special man, my Uncle and Godfather Desmond Brown. This is what I was intending to say today at his memorial service. However, my plans didn't work out the way I hoped. So with that being said, I know he knows where my heart and my mind is and he would appreciate my words just the same.
My Uncle was the most loyal and loving man you would ever know. I am going to be an example of what his love was by sharing my story. We recently had just gotten connected on Facebook and I had made an unexpected trip to New York back in April of 2018 and I had the chance to see him and have a conversation with him which I will never forget. He hadn't seen me since I was kid and when I walked into the West End Lounge in Manhattan, NY it was as if a year or even a day hadn't even passed between us. He loved you regardless if he seen you daily, or if he seen you in passing. If you knew him and he called you a friend, then you were that and perhaps even more to him. He was loyal to his family and friends regardless if he had seen them just yesterday or twenty years later.
To my Uncle Desmond, any accomplishment big or small made him proud. I can hear him now saying and excuse the language, "You a mutha f***n Brown baby! That's how Brown's do!" He wasn't one for the tears, but when we sat and reminisced he was surprised that I had remembered every single, special moment that I had shared with him as a child. He got teary eyed. Uncle Des you were a King in my eyes. You will always be forever and always in my heart and although I was not there today, I know my conversation with you meant the world and I will treasure it for an eternity. This Sir is not a goodbye, for I know I will see you again. You are up there with the best and watching over the family and rooting for us all to WIN!
Just know I intend to do just that with this thing called LIFE. I'm going to win! To my family in New York and from all over, we may not see each other or speak daily, but regardless the love I have for you all runs deep. I wish you all love and light on your life's journey. Just as Des did when I see each of you again it will be as if we will pick up right where we left off.
Love each other, be loyal, and be compassionate for each other and each other's circumstances, because at the end of the day family is family. We may not know when the next time is the last time that we see each other or if our words are at times the final ones spoken.
I love you Uncle Desmond, may you forever rest in peace. Fly high!
